Memorial Award Endowment created in Honour of Tim Jones

JIBC to honour legacy of Paramedic and Search & Rescue Leader

The JIBC Foundation will establish a memorial endowment fund in honour of Tim Jones, BC Ambulance Service Paramedic Chief and North Shore Rescue team leader who passed away January 19, 2014.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Tim Jones’ family, friends, colleagues during this difficult time,” said Dr. Michel Tarko, President of JIBC. “He will be greatly missed.”

"The Tim Jones Memorial Award Fund will be a lasting tribute to a mentor and leader in paramedicine and rescue who spent countless years mentoring new paramedics," said John Chesman, Chair of The JIBC Foundation.

Flags are flying at half mast today at all JIBC campuses to mourn Tim's sudden passing.

Tim provided 32 years of service with the BC Ambulance Service, the past 15 years as Paramedic Chief at the North Vancouver Ambulance Station. He was also involved in more than 1,400 rescues through his 25 years of volunteer service with North Shore Rescue.

He demonstrated a true commitment to life-long learning in paramedicine and rescue, having taken more than 60 courses at JIBC over the last 30 years.

Tim and North Shore Rescue were honored at The JIBC Foundation Gala in November 2013 with the Dr. Joseph H. Cohen Award for outstanding contribution in the field of public safety.

At that time, Foundation Chair John Chesman said: "North Shore Rescue is an invaluable resource in our community. These courageous men and women often times place their own lives at risk in dangerous alpine terrain to search for and rescue hikers in distress. We are grateful to Tim and his team of volunteers for their dedication in helping to keep members of our communities safe."

Tim was also recognized by JIBC in 2007 with a Distinguished Alumnus Award. He received an honorary doctorate from Capilano University in 2012 and received the Order of BC in 2011.
