Context / Purpose: 

This policy provides the basis for the development, review and cancellation of all policies at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC).  All policy development, including review and cancellation, will be guided by the JIBC mission and vision and is consistent with provincial legislation and JIBC governance structures and processes, and as such, will be conducted in a consultative process as reflected in the Policy Development, Review and Cancellation Procedures

Policy Statement: 

JIBC policies support and guide all institutional activity as identified in the strategic plan. All policy and procedure development, review and cancellation will conform to the procedures and principles outlined in the procedures and the Policy Development Handbook. There will be no exceptions to the intention, guidance and coverage to all policies.

All JIBC policies will supersede all school and division based interpretations, or guidelines of said policies. All externally directed and constructed standards and guidelines will be associated with a particular policy or procedures, and the operation and administration of those standards and guidelines will have a senior-level proponent. Approval processes for all related policy activity is articulated in the Policy Development, Review and Cancellation Procedures and Policy Development handbook.  

Scope: 

This policy is comprehensive in that it includes all policies developed on behalf of or by the following governing bodies or positions at JIBC:

  • Board of Governors
  • President
  • Vice-President, Academic
  • Vice-President, Finance & Administration
